TheraCare Autism Program

Autism is a neurological spectrum disorder that affects 1 out of every 88 children in the United States (according to The Center for Disease Control). Present research has yet to discover what causes autism.

Primary onset of autism is evidenced by a child not reaching developmental milestones that are typical for their age. Secondary onset can be defined as when a child reaches milestones at the typical rate and then starts to regress, losing previously learned skills. A child affected by autism often experiences delays in social interactions, play skills, receptive language, and the ability to communicate appropriately.

TheraCare Offers Two Different Autism Programs:

*NEW YORK EARLY INTERVENTION

The Early Intervention Program (EIP) is a public program funded by New York State and county governments for children under the age of three who are either suspected of having or at risk for developmental delays or disabilities. Potentially eligible children must be referred to the county program to receive EIP services:
New York City Nassau County Suffolk County Westchester County
311 516-571-3749 631-853-3100 914-813-5094
All EIP services are provided at no cost to parents. Health Insurance may be used for approved services. A child’s eligibility for the program can be determined only by state-approved evaluators under contract and all services must be authorized by the county. If a child is found eligible for the EIP, all needed early intervention services are identified in collaboration with the parent and must be authorized by the municipality. The municipality will arrange for service providers, considering the individual needs of the child and family, to deliver services authorized by the municipality. When early intervention services are delivered in child care settings or community locations that require a fee, the parent is responsible for paying any associated costs with such access to child care or community locations.
TheraCare is approved by New York State and has a contract with New York City, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk Counties to provide early intervention services.
