TheraCare Autism Program
What is Applied Behavior Analysis?

As long ago as 1981, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has been identified as the treatment of choice for children with Autism. ABA is the design, implementation and evaluation of environmental modifications to produce socially significant improvement in human behavior. ABA includes direct observation, measurement and functional analysis of the relations between factors and behavior. It is the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of learning theory to improve socially significant behaviors.

Socially Significant behaviors include social skills, academics, communication and daily living skills (eating, dressing, toileting, self-care, home and community skills and work skills).

TheraCare 's ABA program is based on scientific principles and procedures of Applied Behavior Analysis. Our program is not exclusive to one strategy within ABA. We provide a comprehensive ABA program utilizing a variety of strategies, such as Discrete Trial Verbal Behavior Natural Environment Teaching and Behavior Modification programming. TheraCare's program is designed to develop and promote an individual curriculum to maximize the potential of every child. Curriculum and instruction is based on each child's individual needs and is programmed to enhance skills in all Developmental Domains.

What are TheraCare's ABA Service Guidelines?

TheraCare engages the student as per the specified amount of hours in the IFSP or IEP - teaching in the natural environment and direct instruction. We also discuss techniques with the families to ensure that the child is engaged throughout his/her day. Family involvement is a critical component to therapy. Evidence based research has directly correlated family involvement to the acquisition of skills.

We encourage families to inform us of their priorities. Services are provided based on family priority, therefore communication between the family and the provider is always encouraged. Services are individualized based on the child's goals, designated on their IFSP or IEP , and in conjunction with professional assessment tools including the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS) and the Hawaii Early Learning Profile (HELP) checklist.

What is TheraCare's ABA Program like?

*NEW YORK EARLY INTERVENTION

The Early Intervention Program (EIP) is a public program funded by New York State and county governments for children under the age of three who are either suspected of having or at risk for developmental delays or disabilities. Potentially eligible children must be referred to the county program to receive EIP services:
New York City Nassau County Suffolk County Westchester County
311 516-571-3749 631-853-3100 914-813-5094
All EIP services are provided at no cost to parents. Health Insurance may be used for approved services. A child’s eligibility for the program can be determined only by state-approved evaluators under contract and all services must be authorized by the county. If a child is found eligible for the EIP, all needed early intervention services are identified in collaboration with the parent and must be authorized by the municipality. The municipality will arrange for service providers, considering the individual needs of the child and family, to deliver services authorized by the municipality. When early intervention services are delivered in child care settings or community locations that require a fee, the parent is responsible for paying any associated costs with such access to child care or community locations.
TheraCare is approved by New York State and has a contract with New York City, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk Counties to provide early intervention services.
